In case USB audio units are operated simultaneously at a PC and further audio units, e.g. mixers, audible hum interference may occur due to different chassis grounds.

Ground isolators, e.g. FGA-40 or FGA-102, allow DC separation of audio inputs and outputs, thus different chassis grounds do not have a negative effect on the sound, anymore.
